Emrich Schoenleber Riesling R 2008, Nahe

Ahh! Not only should people drink more Riesling, but wine lovers should learn to say YES to feinherb styles which has tad more residual sugar.  Aged 5 years, this supersonic white wine from Emrich Schoenleber was pure and elegant, dancing lightly on your tongue with pristine aromas of peach, lemon and apples. Great with sushi.Continue reading “Emrich Schoenleber Riesling R 2008, Nahe”

Jean Grivot Nuits St Georges Boudots 2002

Burgundians say a Burgundy should never be decanted, as the commotion would change the structure of this delicate wine. I listened when drinking this mature Nuits St Georges by high regarded Jean Grivot , and wished I would’nt have! By the time the bottle was almost finished the good old barnyard and earthy aromas plusContinue reading “Jean Grivot Nuits St Georges Boudots 2002”

Benjamin Leroux Nuits St Georges Aux Allots 2011

Had two very different experiences with these 2011 red Burgundies. The Savigny was very much approachable straight out of the bottle, while the Nuits St Georges is still very tight. This just shows what a difference the winemaker and terroir can impart just several hills and vineyards apart. Know what you are buying!

Weingut Ott Gruner Veltliner Der Ott 2010, Austria

Of late I have been drinking more of the light-weight and refreshing style of Gruvees, but thank god for this bottle from Bernhard Ott to remind me how great Gruner Veltliners can be at the dining table, especially as an alternative to Chablis or Sancerre, or any unoaked wine a matter of fact. 4 outContinue reading “Weingut Ott Gruner Veltliner Der Ott 2010, Austria”

Monsoon Valley Extra Sec Rosé 2010, Hua Hin, Thailand

The first vintage of a traditional method sparkling wine made from Shiraz grapes grown at Hua Hin Hills Vineyard, Thailand. Kathrin Puff and her team at Siam Winery did a fine job, so good that no one could believe it is a Thai wine! One of the finest rosés’ sparklers I had this year, manyContinue reading “Monsoon Valley Extra Sec Rosé 2010, Hua Hin, Thailand”

London 1998

Strangely enough we ordered two mature wines from 1998 while dining out in London this November. Domaine Jasmin Cote Rotie and Nikolaihof Riesling Steinriesler. Have enjoyed both, though the experiences where quite different. First, the Cote Rotie, at 25 years of age isn’t going anywhere far, but the developed state with its soft and balancedContinue reading “London 1998”

Sanjo Nubio Sauvignon Blanc 2012, Brazil

The glass of white wine was served while we embraced our friends at the Arts Club, London.  The beautiful lime notes, the slight grassiness…. and a quick glance at the label confirmed an SB, but from where? Wow, Brazil! Just in time to get us all excited for World Cup next year! Well-built and anContinue reading “Sanjo Nubio Sauvignon Blanc 2012, Brazil”

Billecart Salmon Grande Cuvee 1996

A classy but poised Champagne which begins to have secondary aromas. Unfortunately this bottle was enjoyed with other 9 people and there was no time for this massive Champagne to open up in the glass. Not sure there will be another chance! In this group, environment only 4 stars, expected more, but maybe it gotContinue reading “Billecart Salmon Grande Cuvee 1996”
